While many people have received the most recent stimulus payment, a select few are still asking where and how they can expect to finally have access to their funds. The majority of qualifying residents in the country received a direct deposit into the bank account used for 2019 tax filing. These hit accounts in the early part of January. Paper checks were mailed out in mid-January. The less popular option, a prepaid debit card, has thrown people for a loop – and we have heard many complaints and read countless stories from those who thought the prepaid card was a scam and threw it away!

We don’t want that to be you! Let’s review the ways you can expect to receive your stimulus payment, if you qualify and haven’t yet received a payment.

Ways You Can Receive Your Stimulus Payment

  • Mail – You may receive a paper check or a prepaid debit card. Don’t throw away the envelope – be on the lookout. We have provided images of what the prepaid envelope and prepaid card will look like when they hit your mailbox.

  • Direct Deposits – For those who have not yet received your anticipated direct deposit, continue to watch your bank account. We recommend following up using the Get My Payment tool on the IRS website.
  • Tax Returns – The IRS reminds eligible taxpayers who have not received a payment – or only received partial payment– to be sure and claim the Recovery Rebate Credit when filing your 2020 tax return. If you have questions regarding this option, please visit IRS.gov.

STIMULUS SCAM ALERT

The IRS will never call you to verify your Social Security Number, nor will they call and ask you to read the numbers on your prepaid debit card in order to activate it. If you have received, or do receive, a prepaid debit card, YOU will need to activate it and create a PIN number by calling 1.800.240.8100.

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, your financial institution, someone posing as a friend, or even a family member asking you to verify the card number or your social security number – be suspicious. Stay vigilant and be mindful with your personal information and your stimulus information.
